Hello

Not too good a picture. One I have been struggling with while I have been down with the crud for almost 2weeks.  Some mooka, shattuck, purk, poke leaf, dragonair, printemps, meer, flux, squid, Knightsbridge, nipa, n'zeppel and nymph to name a few.

Update

I retired the first of December.  Finally, I have time to devote to art.  I am loving it.  I went down last weekend and visited the shop of fellow CZT in Colorado Springs, Deb Prewitt.  She has a lovely shop for anyone down in that area - and she is so knowledgeable in a variety of arts.  We have a really great visit.

I plan to start a teaching schedule in January.  I now have time to put some classes together, just have to figure out how to reach people.  I have worked in an isolated job, so don't know many people.  I have joined the community recreation center, and will visit the senior center.  If you know anyone interested in the north Denver area, please have them get in touch with me.  I will start, of course, with basic classes, but plan to expand to advanced classes, including color, Renaissance tiles, white on black, borders, meditation, to name a few.  I look forward to developing this plan.

I will keep posting in the meantime, with my challenge pieces and other art.  I am currently designing a new cover photo for the blog, and am also creating the Facebook page - GramTangles.  Feel free to visit, although there isn't much there yet.

Diva Challenge 198

  • The last challenge of 2014 from The Diva is K.I.S.S.  (Keep It Simple Stupid).  I love Mooka, so to me a simple tile was to do a monotangle of mooka - with an ahhhh!  I kept the shading to a minimum and no additions.  Some auras within the Mooka, but not much else.

After the cards

I had a design in mind to try.  I started with Dyon in the center, surrounded by mooka.  Added poke root and hollibaugh with flux.  I used the cross hatching in the hollibaugh to offset the values.  It was a fun piece to create.  Ended up being about 8x6".

Cards are done

I finished making my Christmas cards.  My first foray into watercolor.  After these, I switched yo watercolor pencil and liked the outcome better.  I definitely need to take some training in watercolor.

Retirement

I did a piece 8x10" on grey toned paper using red Le Pen with red colored pencil shading, zen stone and white charcoal for highlights, and graphite for shading.  I starTed the piece the weekend after Thanksgiving.  I retired on December 2 and finished it.  This is one that I will frame.

Dolls

Remember childhood dolls?  Paper dolls, Barbie dolls, Chatty Cathy, etc?  Our guest blogger for this week's Diva challenge invited us to revisit and be inspired by dolls.  Well I grew up in a household of quilts.  Sweet Sue, Sunflower Sue.....  So I went with Sunflower Sue and tangled her up a bit.  This was fun and it has made me think of doing a series with her igrowing older.  I will have to give that some thought.  Anyway here's my Sue!

Prismacolor pencils

I got a gift of prismacolor pencils.  What an amazing gift and a wonderful pencil to work with.  Here's my first work.  8 1/2 x 11inch.  The colored pencils are pigment based.  They flow like cream.  Wonderful to work with.

Square one: purely zentangle Assunta

Here is Assunta without using the grid along with mooka, flux and onomata.

Double 6

I turned 66 today and this is what I did.  Denver had record cold temps today for November 11 and it was snowing.  A good day to tangle.  This is a 9"x 12" piece.  I just used a real mix of tangles and made a double zendala on year double 6.

Diva challenge 191

This weeks challenge is a mono tangle - betweed.  I like this pattern.  I kept it pretty basic though as I am just now doing it.  Totally spaced it.

Snowflake Zendala

I took a class today from my friend and fellow CZT Sue Clark.  We did a zendala based on a snowflake we cut out.  Surprising!

Diva challenge 190 - Think pink

I kept my tile simple to give the message of hope.

Square one challenge pattern this week is aquafleur.  I am learning to like it.  My friend CJ Petersen did a renaissance tile using the hatching in the background and I wanted to see how it would look in a black and white tile.  I really like it.  It made good use of the white space.  I "purlized" the aquafleur strips.

Fengle

Our Square One: Purely Zentangle this week is Fengle.  I did two.  First one pretty basic.  In the second one I challenged myself to do an aura knot with the fengle.  Made them do a dance.

Square One: Purely Zentangle

I have two weeks of posting on square One: Purely Zentangle. I have struggled this week with personal decisions and have pretty much stressed myself out.  But I still did these two tangles.

Last week, we had Betweed as our Tangle.  Here is my posting for that.  My Betweed took an organic turn, joining up with verdigogh, flux and poke root, with a tipple base.

This week was Pendrill.  I didn't much care for the tangle alone, but decided it would be in the footlites holding an AuraKnot!!

Sharpen your line skills

Tanglepatterns.com posted a new story today about sharpening line drawing skills.  Linda posted an article of six easy lessons from Simone Bischoff.  Here is the link to the article. Pretty awesome stuff.

Square One: Purely Zentangle - Dex was the word of the week

My tangle this past week in Square One featured Dex, Visited by munchin, fasset, printemps, florz, keeko and inapod.  Used String 123.
While I was at it, I did another Purely Zentangle tile featuring Coil with Mooka, purl, , printemps, tripoli both large and small, and a tangleation of a grid - maybe a modified Yincut (the one with the triangle and orb on one-half)?  Anyway, I liked the coil with Mooka part of it.

I know I am rambling a bit here.  I have been doing a lot of practicing this week to keep the flow going.  Life changes daily and I am trying to get some direction going.  I think I have a new plan in place and look forward to seeing if I can make it work.

I'm not even sure if anyone is reading my blog yet, but I just want to keep adding to it and get some steam built up.

Laters friends.

Sunflowers

I finally finished my first colored pencil drawing.  I partly used a coloring page from Creative Haven and then made it my own and Zentangled it.  I learned a lot and can't wait to start another one.  It is Micron pen and colored pencil.  8"x10"

Twisty-bob

Here is a new tile where I was practicing twisty-bob and working on shading.   Included cubine and shattuck for that reason.  It came out rather dramatic but I like it.  The shading really made it pop.  My photo came out dark, not sure why.  It is on a white tile.

Diva Challenge 185

This week's challenge is to do a Duo Tangle with Phicops and Diva Dance.  Phicops is a tangle that was created by Laura Harms' husband, and Diva Dance was created by Rick and Maria for The Diva.  It is a different pair to put together but here is my entry.

Enjoy your week and I will talk to you soon.  I am thinking about putting together a class.  Hopefuilly it will come to fruition.  I  will let you know more about that in the future.

I do find that Zentangle has really opened a new door for me - one to help forget about the daily pressures and relax.  And the friends I have made - unbelievable!!

Square One: Purely Zentangle

A group was started to take us back to the basics.  Only 3.5" square tile, black pen and graphite pencil. No color. No exceptions.  It is great to do.  Each week the focus tangle is an "official" pattern. We all then create a tile using that tangle.  This week is Fescu.  What a treat this has been. Some have used it as a focus of the tile -in others it is an accessory.  I have used it as an accessory to Luv-a, rain, with some quahog and tipple.

Diva Challenge 183

Doesn't that figure - I start my blog and then go on vacation.  So no postings.    I will start by posting my entry for the Diva Challenge this week - if you aren't familiar with her challenges, visit her website.  There is a link on my blog taking you directly there.  Her challenge this week is to use the new Tangle introduced at CZT 14 and CZT 15 classes named Ing.  It is a wonderful tile to use.

Diva challenge with Ing. Used renaissance tile since I hadn't for a while.

Sunday, August 24, 2014

This is my first post as a Certified Zentangle Teacher. I am pleased to share my artwork, information and path to creating art that was previously outside my comfort zone.  I no longer feel like there are boundaries preventing me from creating.  The best piece of advice I had was from a lady from TheNetherlands who told me to buy a coloring book and color outside the lines.  It worked.

Zentangle is an artform for anyone.  Yes, I said ANYONE.  If you can draw a dot, a line,a curved line, or a circle, you can create Zentangle Art.  There are no mistakes in Zentangle art.  You do not use an eraser. You use a pen, ink, pencil and a 3.5" square tile.  That's it.  No expensive supplies to buy.  And the resources are endless.  The best advice, though, is to take classes from a Certified Zentangle Teacher.  I was fortunate to connect with Sue Clark in Loveland and took classes from her for over a year before becoming certified myself.  You can look at all the pictures and patterns you want, but it is the process that is the whole key.

A Zentangle has no up and down.  It is not a comprehensive picture where you are drawing an object.  It is a form of art in which you practice the idea that Anything is Possible One Stroke At a Time.  You just let your mind flow with the drawing.

I will attempt to explore this world with you and keep learning.  I hope to start a series of classes soon but have none scheduled at the present time.
