My December calendar pages

I have been working through the Tangle-A-Day Calendar ( this year - I am proud to say that I have actually completed all of the pages in this calendar to date.  This has been a commitment I made to myself and I have enjoyed it so much and learned so much that I ordered the 2017 Tangle-A-Day Calendar. (  This year, Jane Eileen, another CZT who administers a Facebook group, has actually supplied a list of patterns for each day.  These are patterns that I might not have been inclined to look at or practice, and I have added some favorites to my list.  Next year, I plan to work through the official Zentangle patterns - 1 every 3 days - along with some favorites I want to work with more.

In this Calendar, at the start of each month is a monthly calendar and then an extra page where Carol Ohl started the design.  The past few months I have worked on these pages and completed her art with my own.  I am sharing these pages for December - I hope you enjoy them.  The first picture is the partial page for page 2, then my finished two pages (the page with the monthly calendar had no predrawn design on it).

Our Tangled Lives

I don't often blog about the journal work I do in this group - I think maybe it reveals more than I want in a lot of ways.  But this one page I did some practicing on shading techniques.  It was a lot of fun to create and work on the shading.  I did it over a couple of days over the Thanksgiving holiday.  I used the new Zentangle patterns Icanthis and Waybop, along with Joki, Flux, Vertigogh, Tipple, Laflor and some line work, with a background of florz.  The first one is the line work, and then the shading.  I wish the photograph did it more justice - it really is quite dramatic.

Seeing Stars

I am seeing stars today. I spent yesterday creating ornament stars from Cris Letourneau's star ornament book for my own use and to enclose in my December swaps as an extra surprise in the traveling tangles project. Here are some pictures of some of the stars I made. You can findCris' book at  These are so much fun to make. I recommend Cris' book.
I even included the new offiial Zentangle pattern Icanthis on one of them.  And there are no gold stars - these are actually silver but for some reason photographed gold.

Diva Challenge 294

This week the Diva delved into the world of reticula and fragments.  This is a subject covered in Rick and Maria's second Primer and a subject I have played with some.  The other day I came across a pattern by YuRu Chen called Bridge that immediately came to mind with this challenge.  I did some playing with the pattern - different variations (the first picture shown).  Then I applied it to a regular sized tile.  It got kind of busy and I had to really think about placing the pattern.  As you can see I used a mirror pattern effect in my final tile (the second picture).

Creating Art at the Speed of Life

I have started a new learning experience.  The book Creating Art at the Speed of Life by Pam Carriker is a 30-day mixed media learning experience.  It starts out by creating a canvas-covered journal from two sheets of 22x30" watercolor paper.  It consists of 5 signatures grouped together into a journal.  That was fun to make and I will share a picture of it when I complete the artwork on it.  I started out with the first two lessons  which deal with the color wheel and understanding the terms of color.  So the first two pages of my journal are complete.  So far it is a great experience and I am enjoying it.

Diva Challenge 293

I decided I needed to switch up this week for the Diva Challenge.  The pattern to use is Keeko.  This is one of the first patterns I learned to use.  I actually use it quite a bit as a frame, especially on illuminated letter opus tiles.  Here is the tile I have prepared for this week's challenge - keeko with joki, flux and torn screen.  I like using torn screen as a background, and keeko works well in that way also.

This is one of the illuminated letter opus tiles showing Keeko used in the border around the letter.

This week's focus pattern is Rainking.  You can find the stepouts on  I have mixed it with a variation of Hamadox (without the "dox") and Raindotty.

Diva Challenge 292

The UMT (Use My Tangle) challenge this month is Eaxy.  Wow this took focus.  You can find the stepouts on  I kept it confined to small space and really had to concentrate on the pattern.  I mixed it with printemps, Ovy, Inapod/Abumdies variation, Barberpole, and Edgar,

All I could say was wow when I saw the result.
Annette had 25 prople join in - from Belgium, the Netherlands, USA, Italy, France,, UK, Finland and Germany.  She had 36 tiles to work with.  You can check it out at her blog.  Everyone had information on their interpretation of wind and how they applied it.

I opened an email today from Annette, the master of the Mosaics that I enjoy.  (See the blog post of October 31 where I posted my addition for this month's Mosaic.) Annette sent me a mosaic of my tile.  Awesome!
