CZT New Year Swap 2017

I am joining in on a swap with other CZTs for the New Year.  These are 4"x6" watercolor tiles.  The only requirement is that they have 2017 somewhere on them.  I gracefully hid it on each one.  These are all watercolor backgrounds, enhanced with pastel chalk pencils and highlighted with white gelly roll.  There is a bit of gold and a bit of sparkle included as well.  The end of January, I should get an envelope back with 3 ZIAs from other CZTs.  This is always a lot of fun.

Square One: Drawings

At Zen Again this year, Zentangle HQ introduced four new patterns.  This week's focus pattern on Square One is one of them - Drawings.  Here I have created a tile with Drawings and another new one, Icanthis.  I like them both.

Seasons Greeting ZIA

I really had a great time with this piece.  I posted a week ago the linework and had to wait to return home from traveling to finish.  So I sat down last night and started the color work  Here is the next WIP.
So the last step was the embellishments aand more shading.  I am pleased with the final result.  You will notice that I have used Verdigogh, Cruffle and Laflor in my tangling.  Happy Holidays to all!

Seasons ZIA

I have had an idea in mind since I saw a piece of cardstock scrapbook paper at a store I found in Shawnee Mission, Kansas called VintageinKc.  This store is amazing.  If you are ever in the area you should check it out.  Anyway, here is the paper that called to me..

So I had in mind poinsettias and a garland with a lantern and candle.  Vague, huh?  I went to World Market and looked at lanterns to get an idea what I wanted.  Then I started experimenting with the Zentangle pattern Laflor to make the Poinsettias.  I worked with that on tan to get the toning down - not a lot of color, just enough to pop it.  Here is my test page (well, the one I am showing.  I think I did about 6 sketches before getting to this point.)

So I really liked the way the poinsettia-like flowers worked, and decided to start on the page.  Now, this paper is grey, but I love the splotchy look of the gray.  I used one of my sketches to lay down the linework on this.  Here is the first result of the linework.

Now I will start color and shading and highlights when I return to my home tomorrow.  I have been at my son's house in Colorado where the weather didn't allow for much other than sitting around the fireplace with a sketchbook!!

Once I finish, I will post the resulting page.  I am so excited to get this one done since it has been in my mind for a month!!

Square One: Stella

Stella is a pattern from Jana Roberts Pharmer.  Love it - as it is zendala-like in its simplicity.  I added some Quandu, Uncorked, Rain Dotty and Pearly

Diva Challenge 297

This is the last challenge of 2016.  To honor this, the Diva invited us to revisit one of the past year's final challenges.  I chose the 2014 Challenge #198 - K.I.S.S. (Keep it Simple, Silly!).  I did a simple Stella by Jana Roberts Pharmer, and added some simple line work to the pattern.

Square One: Aura Leah

Aura-Leah is a pattern created by Carmen du Perez.  It is very organic in nature, which makes it a favorite of mine.  I mixed it here with Moowa, Barrel Roll, Discolea and Printemps.

Calendar fun

I have faithfully worked through every day of my Tangle-A-Day calendar this year.  But I had some fun on the 12th of December.  The pattern for that day was GuGus.  As I worked through the pattern, I added some Fescu as fillers and the GuGus turned into geese!!
I have my 2017 calendar and plan to continue this journey.

Square One: Reel

This focus pattern comes from Lily Moon and is a fun pattern.  It was a bit confusing at first, but when it comes together, it is great.  I filled it with a mixture of Nzeppel and Nymph and rounded out the tile with Crazy Huggins (or Random Huggins).  It got kind of busy but it worked.

Diva Challenge 296

Laura's UMT (Use My Tangle) challenge this week is Anna Ipsen..  Mooka is a mac'n'cheese pattern for me, but Moowa started flowing in a stilted manner for me.  So I went ahead and finished it with Laflor as a softening balance.  And ended up with contrasting by darkening open areas.

I decided to try another tile and soften it.  I created a circular pattern with it, and then interwove it.  I finished it off by framing it with Noom and a linework frame set off by Keeko and Msst.
Which one do you like best?

Diva Challenge 295

This week in the Diva Challenge, we are doing reticula and fragments again.  This time, Laura wants us to draw in grid in pen and then do an alternating asymmetrical fragment.  I used K5 on the fragment grid in the Primer, and added Joki and tumbleweed. I did K5, alternating direction on every other piece of the grid.
